A $9-million redevelopment of the Bridgewater Mall culminated last week in the opening of a Winners store, the last new tenant in the revamped space.

The project, four years in the making, was prompted by the closure of a 92,000-square-foot Zellers location.

“This is the last piece of the puzzle for that vacant Zellers,” Michael Levy, property manager of the mall and vice-president of Zenda Group, said Monday.

Montreal-based Zenda Group and Time Equities of New York are partners with mall owner ZT Bridgewater Investment Inc.

Bridgewater Investment also owns the Eastside Plaza across the street.

Besides Winners, the other tenants in the new space are Leon’s Furniture, Sport Chek, Mark’s and Dollarama. Most of the stores opened last year.

Mark’s moved from a location near Highway 103. Dollarama was previously in a smaller space elsewhere in the mall before moving earlier this year. The other three tenants are new to the South Shore market.

Levy said the next phase of a long-term redevelopment plan for the mall involves a 22,000-square-foot-space that previously housed a Nothin’ Fancy furniture store. A new tenant could open by late summer but a deal hasn’t been finalized yet, he said.
